Racing at Kawke's Bay. Second Day. By " Turf." 1 Tho weather continued unfavourable for the second day of the above winter meeting, Eeveral heavy snow-1 ers of rain and one of hail making things rather uncomfortable for all concerned. The course was soddenand heavy. On the strength of his win on the first day Matakokiri was selected as a likely winner for the Hack Hurdles, Oasis next in demand. Dnlcinea got» i away first, with Oasis and Matakokiri close behind,- and the hurdle in front of the stand saw them still together, Dulcinea being in front. Dan Leno was made favourite for the Ladies' Necklace, whilst the winner, Iceland (Wonderland— Barbelle), was also well supported. The Stake, ridden by Mr G. Hirst, was in front most of the way, and looked all over a winner, but Iceland, who had been lying second, camo with a strong run in the straight, and eventually won by a good three lengths. The June Steeplechase saw all the acceptors with tho exception of Irish and Daredevil go to the post, Hutana eventually starting favourite. The first to get away were Tilson and Le Vent, the others in a bunch behind. Blue Streak ran off at the double in front of the stand, and took no further part in the race. Going round- the first time, Hikairoa was leadiusr, bat passing the stand tor the second time had fallen back into fourth place, the order being No Shot, Tilson, Le Vent, Hikairoa, Nadador, Hutana. Round the back No Shot kept in front, Tilson dropping back into last place and subsequently came down at the sod wall. At the railway bend No Shot was still in command, and looked a certainty, but he ran off at the double hurdles entering the straight. Nadador and Hikairoa rose at the last jump together, but the former stumbled rather badly. recovering, however, Nadador soon got on level terms again with Hikairoa, and an exciting finish resulted in favour of Sir William Russell's mare by three-quarters of a length. Hutana, about six lengths away, was third. . , Only four went to the post m the Turamoe Hurdles, and 114 Aqua Rega, 179 Te Uira, 262 Prospector, | and 317 Lavinia were the amounts invested. The race is easily decsribed, for Aqua Regia led all the way, .and won by over 100 yards, about six length separating second and third, and a bare head between third and fourth. Time, Jmin. 4lsec. Totalisator, 772 investors; dividend, £6 Is. The Raukawa Hack was another good race for speculators, for which Robin Link was the only withdrawal. White Lie started favourite, with Tangeroa as the next best. Leonore led to tho bend into the straight, -when Whito Lie got on even terms. At tho distance White Lie had forged to the front under' pressure, ultimately winning by two lengths. Haukeria a good third. All the acceptors went to the post in the Final Handicap and were all well supported.
