Eeue Tewhetu pluckily endeavoured to extinguish the fiames with nis coat and Mohave fell overboard while hastening to assist, and some of the others jumped overboard. Aperaliama Tewhetu was drowned while trying to save his wife tod their little son. Mohi was also drowned, as well as Mrs Eenata, an elderly woman. There were eleven persons in the launch and eight were ectved.
