TAIHAPE.

From Our Own Correspondent. The annual social and dance of the railway employees took place on Friday night, and though the night was perhaps the worst that we have had for some time, yet a goodly number braved the elements, and I am sure were amply rewarded for doing so. There were about 35 couples |preseut, and the dance was most enjoyable, as our friends of the railway service had left nothing undone to make the function the success it has always been. The member for the district was present* and opened the dance. The music was .supplied by Messrs Tyrol! and Sutcliffe, clarionet and piano, and in their hands was all„that could bo desired. The catering was in the capable hands of Mr Oapill, which is in itself a sufficient guarantee of the quality of the good things provided. Tiio hall had been beautifully decorated with flags and evergreens, and when lit up with the help of the railway coloured signal lights provided had a very pretty effect. Dancing was kept going till about 3 a.m., all having spout a jolly time. The Andrew Black-Premslav Concert Co. visit Taihape next Saturday, the 22ud, so wo.are looking forward to an unusual treat, as it is not often our lot to got a visit from a talented company like this, as the miserable apology for a hall that wo have is not at all encouraging for decent companies to visit, and those that do brave the conditions cannot got the stage room to produce the different plays in their repertoire, and consequently a play so given £is really spoilt through, perhaps, no fault of the company. It is time that our city fathers bestirred tWfiusolves in this matter and provided us with a hall and equipments that would encourage good companius to pay us a visit.
