Press Association—Copyright. Melbourne, June 9. Evidently robbery wa3 the motive for the murder of Bauer. Ho was iu the habit of earring 'a bag containing thousands of pounds' worth of precious stones and pearls and depositing it in the bank over night. This bag is missing and it is stated- that it contained gems worth two or three thousand pounds. There are indications that he was struck down when weighing diamonds on - scales on the office table. His hat was pierced where the fatal blows were struck. Bauer was a partner in the firm of Bauer, Shaumerand Bauer, importers and dealers of precious stones doing a very large business throughout Australia, with their own pearling fleet at Broome.
