FEILDING BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

The annual meeting was held last night, Mr Haggitt in the chair. In the report it was stated tnattne work done to improve the railway station plot, which cost in labour £53 14s Gd, was as much as funds would permit. It was hoped the Society would be able, during the coming year, to improve the reserve at the bottom of Kimbolton road. The total receipts, including cash in hand, at beginning of year £25 4s Gd, were £BS 9s lOd, and the expenditure £6 2s Gd less that amount. r Messrs J. Cobbe and F. Pirani were elected vice-presidents, the Mayor being the president. Mr F. T. Lethbridge was elected patron. Messrs A. James. A. G. Oarty, J. Darragh, D. Barrett, J-|H. Barltrop, W. A. Sandilands and Dr. Johnson were elected to fill'vacancies on the committee. It was decided to request the Council to top dress the Manchester Square plot, also to raise the land near the south street bridge so as to cans© a natural drainage and to fence it; also that the Council be asked to hand over the south street reserve to the Society, the opinioiTheing expressed that tho Council should pay the cost of permanent improvements to the ground such as fencing. A sub-committee was appointed to outline a plan for beautifying the reserve, the general opinion being in favour of planting ornamental trees and shrubs around the natural bush. * _ It was decided to ask the Council to prohibit the placing of advertising placards onthe band stand.
