The Chairman’s Resignation

A special meeting of the above was held on Stanrday to consider the estimates for the current year and go into the matter of the model bylaws.

At the conclusion of tho mooting Or. Beckett tendered his resignation as Chairman and Councillor for tho Porcwa Riding, as he was about to leave on au extended trip to "the Old Country. He thanked Councillors for their assistance, and referred to tho amicable feeling which existed between them, and tho pleasure it had been to him to preside at the Council meetings. He expressed a hope that on some future occasion he would be again permitted ’to represent a Riding of the County, and he also expressed his appreciation of the manner in which the staff had performed their duties, and thanked them for their assistuce in the carrying out of the work of the Council. Cr. Fraser, in moving the acceptance of the resignation, said they were all extremely sorry to lose Mr Beckett as Chairman, but no doubt ho was fairly entitled to a holiday. He thanked Or. Beckett for the great assistuce' he had been to Councillors and tho able maimer in which lie had performed the duties of Chairman.

Cr. McGregor, in seconding the motion, and also tho other Councillors, referred to tho good feeling which had always existed between the Chairman and other members. Ho wished Mr and Mrs Beckett and family a very pleasant trip and a safe return, and hoped to see him again occupying the seat at the head of the table.

The following resolution was recorded:—“That this Council accepts with regret the resignation of Mr R. E. Beckett as Chairman, and expresses its high appreciation of tho valuable services ho lias rendered to the County, and also of tho good feeling which had always prevailed in the conduct of business.

All Councillors were present'escept Or. Canton, who sent a message regretting his inability to be present, and wishing Mr and Mrs Beckett bon voTageJJhnd a safe return.! On the motion of Or. Fraser, seconded by Or. A. G. Simpson, Or. McGregor was appointed temporary Chairman.
