FAKMEKS' UNION MEETING The monthly meeting tf the Clevedon branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Public Hall on the evening of Saturday last. The members pre?ent were Messrs C A Fawcett, president, J Shaw, vice-president, C C Munro, H J Bull. J Luke, A D Bell J Hancock, T Bell, W Duder, S Browne, H H Cawte and the secretary, J A Gundy Mr Fawcett, on taking the chair for tfce liist time since being elected to the position of president fjr the coming year, thanked the members fur the honour done him in electing him to the post, and stated that he hoped to fulfil the obligatiar.s of his office ia as efficient a manner as the immediate pastpresident and thcs2 preceding fcim, if it were possible, 'lhey had set him a very high standard to attain, and ore good rule ot tte last president he hoped to follow was that of "thinking twice before he spoke orcc."

The minutes of tlu Irst meeting having been read and confirmed, the chairman txpiessed his regret at the loss to the district and to the Union in the death of Mr James McKnight. A vote of condolence was passed to Mr McKnight's family, the members standing Mr A D Bell reported on the steps taken by the Road Board in connection with assisting the recruiting scheme
