In Pukekohe Borough

Some weeks ago the Borough Council, in view of the fact that the New Zealand Lean and Mercanlile Agency Company contemplattd erect in a new yards in Pukekohe, set uo a Committee to approacli the auctioneering firms with the object of endeavouring to arrange that Ihey should both hold their sales in Buckland and Sons' yards. The Committee intervitwtd the firms in question, the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company expressing their willingness, whilst Buckland and Sons stated they would consider the matter.

At Wednesday night's meeting of the Borough Council the following letter from Buckland and Sons was read:-"in reply to your favour of the 4th inst., we have given the matter ve;y careful consideration, anJ have decided tc do our best to comply with your suggestions. We accordingly propose to approach the New Zealand L'.an Company with the view of coming to some amicable arrangement with them as to the use of our yard at a rental and on terms to be agreed upon. We understand that if we can co-B'J to an amicable arrangement with the Loan Company your Council will support us in every way and will not pass any by-laws which will be detrimental to our business. We appreciate fully your desire to recognise Vhe large amount we have spent in installing whit are generally considered to be the mcst up-to-date yards in the North Island. At the same time we feel that our foresight in erecting th m in thrir present pisition deserves every consideration both at your hands and anyone whom we may deal with. Consequently, althojgh wc are anxious to meet you in every way, we would ask that this communication be treated a* without pre-
