Si) far this had not been done and anyone was liable to break an axle. The foreman explained that the contractor had been asking lor metal to do the work with. The Mayor : ' Mi, well they re evidently attending to it. Tho section was previously ouo of the dtiest allotments in tho street before tho stuff complaiued of was deposited. The Works Committee and foreman are to iuspect tho property and report.

Oiuection to Eating. Constable J. S. Willcocks wrote " lie Swamp Special Rating Area. I beg to inform you that 1 object to my soction being placed in the Swamp Special Bating Area on tho ground that my property will not bo benefited or will be only partially benefited by the expenditure of tho proposed loan. Also, if this case is brought before tho Com t I shall contend that the Court has no jurisdiction in the matter because of the great number of informalities in preparing and legalising the roll—or perhaps it would be better to say, illegalising tho roll." The Mayor and Cr. Johns expressed surprise at Mr Willcocks' objection. If the loan had not been carried on Monday, they said, they would have heard nothing of this matter. It appeared to thorn that while the objector had no objection to outsiders paying for tho Mtiiiukau-road pa-it his property ho objected to contributing towards the road for the outsiders. "Begin tho road at the other end," said a councillor. The Mayor explained that certain properties wore left out of the original West Boad Board loan three years ago (owing to the Board being limited to £6000) and a promise was made that a fresh special loan would be raised later on. 'lhe borough should keep that promise now and if need be should contest this matter to the bitter end. If they were beaten theu they should go over the forms again, Cr. Johns said Mr illcoeks would have signed the loan requisition before but since the borough loans were cairied and his laud would now have load outlet lie would not now sign. Tho Council decided to proceed with the formalities.
