The chairman of the Pukekohe School Committee received from Mr C. T. Barriball, the member for this district on the Education Board, an apology for his absence through being unwell from Tuesday's opening function of the Technical School. Mr B. 11. Andrew, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, has written to the Mayor of Pe'cekoho asking His Worship to inaugurate a function in Pukekohe of a non-political character to do honour to Mr Massey on the occasion of his having attained the Premiership. The Mayor informed us last week that he had received an offer from a private source to float a loan for the Borough for £SOOO or £IO,OOO at a brokerage of £ per cent, the interest to be 5 per cent and the period either three or five years. The All Star Pictures, in the Masonic Hall, continue to be of excellent quality. Mr Coyle and his assistants have worked indefatigably to produce good resvHs. Future programmes promise to be of even higher merit than those enjoyed in the past and they should attract big houses. The Mayor (Mr W. Dunn) has received word from the Treasury that the ton per cent additional on the £12,500 loan (£1,250) raised by the Town Board, is available on the necessary steps being taken. The requisite papers were filled in and forwarded to Wellington. On Friday evening Miss Flavell, who has severed her connection with the firm of W. Roulston, was presented by her fellow-employees with a very handsome dinner and tea sei /ice and butter dish and knife. Mr J. A large number of friends gathered at Mr Joseph Wright's residence at Pukekohe on Friday night to say " goodbve " to Mr and Mrs R. Summerville. During the evening Mr J. J. Hart presented Mr Summerville with an umbrella and a case of pipes, and Mis Sonnuerville with a hand mirror and a pair of silver-mounted brushes and comb. Mr Hart expressed the regret of a wide circle of friends at Mr and Mrs Summorville's departure from the district and wished them good luck and prospoiity in the future. During the evening songs were contributed by Mrs Brunton, and Messrs S. Ourney and F. Graham. Dancing was indulged in and kept up till the dav had broken.
