SEVEN CONVICTION^,
Magistrate’s Court
Seven convictions for breaches of the traffic regulations were entered by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., at the Magistrate’s Court, Putaruru, on Monday. Traffic Inspector Jj L. Gray prosecuted in each instance. Dangerous Driving
For driving in a dangerous manner Ronald Leslie Ellis was fined £5 and costs 10s. On January 26 Ellis, who had twice previously been before the Court, attempted to overtake two heavy timber lorries on an ,up grade where there was a bad blind right hand bend, on the main road between Tokoroa Putaruru. His speed was 30 miles per hour but he just managed to get in frent of one of the lorries when a, car came round t.he corner. , A similar charge was faced by Norman Sydney Bright who on December 23, at 2.15 p.m., drove a jeep through Tirau at a speed of 43 miles per hour, when there was a lot of traffic about, and made a right hand turn two vehicles, only the prompt action of one of the drivers averting an accident. He was fined £1 10s, costs 12s. . Excessive Speed
Thomas Brendon Cooney was convicted on two charges: tine of excessive 3peed end the other of failing to keep to the left, on the main road, Putaruru, on December
19. His speed was 45 miles per hour through the restricted area of the borough and he straddled the centre line down the dangerous road to the Oraka Karaka stream. He was fined £2 and costs 10s on each charge.
A petrol waggon carrying 1500 gallons was checked for a mile at 42 miles per hour on February 2. In convicting the driver, Frederick Louis Imms, Mr Freeman remarked that the excessive speed was perhaps due to the use of the brand of petrol carried. t .Third conviction in 12 months was that of Francis John Pickrang who was fined £4 and costs for driving a heavy motor vehiclg, on the main road, Putaruru, at ‘45 miles per hour on April 17, 1949. .No Heavy License An operator, William Gordon Arnold, was fined £5 and costs l&J for operating without a heavy mffic license on No. 1 Camp Road, Mangakino, on January 31. When weighed the vehicle registered 13,0001 b. Pillion Rider Carried < A fortnight after being tested and instructed that pillion riders could not be carried while a motor cycle still bore L plates, Kenneth Cardy was found breaking the conditions of his license, on No. 1 Camp Road, Mangakino, on December 12, 1949. He was fined £1 with costs 10s.
