PARKS COMMITTEE

DECEMBER MEETING Gang Mowers Purchased There was a small attendance at the December meeting of the Parks Committee on Wednesday when the purchase of a second-hand set of gang mowers was approved. The secretary, Mr V. L. Drummond, said that the availability of the mowers was brought to the notice of the committee by' Mr C. B. Arahill. They were inspected by Cr. C. R. Robinson and found to be satisfactory, the matter being referred to as many committeemen as possible at short notice. It was stated that the mowers, the benefit of which was already noticeable at Glenshea Park, would be sold upon the arrival of the new mower ordered some months ago. It was decided not to let or lend the mowers to any organisations, a direction being given for them to be placed under the control of Mr D. Burke. Axemen and Park Mr Foote, of the Putaruru Axemen’s Club, waited upon the committee with a request that the club be given permission to establish and fence oil a permanent area at Glenshea Park to be used each year by the club for its carnival. Permission was refused, it being explained th&t not only would such action encroach upon the football field and athletic track, etc., but that the committee could not give special rights and privileges to one organisation over and above or at the expense of others. Assurances of every co-operation of the committee with the club were given. Permission to Use Oil The Putaruru Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was given permission to use oil for marking its athletic track at Glenshea Park. The secretary of the club, Mr E. Ball, pointed out in a letter that oil was used extensively throughout the Waikato for marking, similar tracks without harmful effect. Sympathy for Member The secretary was instructed to convey a message of sympathy with hopes for a speedy recovery to Mr E. Ward who recently fell and broke his leg, and who is at present a patient in the Waikato hospital. More Plans of Hall Further plans of Glenshea Park Hall were submitted by the architect. After thorough discussion it was decided to forward them to the Internal Affairs Department for approval, although it was stated that still further plans might be required. The building as now planned is in the shape of a squared letter U and will face out on to the terraces. Those present at. the meeting were Mr H. L, Martin (chairman), Messrs J. If. Morris, J. E. Duxfield, I. Bayly, R. Howard and C. V.' Pearce. Apologies were received from Messrs J. S. Downs, J. A. Halkett, E. Ward and C. R. Robinson.
