TRAINING IN NEW ZEALAND Greater Advantages Here Four scholarships in each' of five years will be awarded by the Victorian Government to students for training in dairy science at Massey Agricultural College, New Zealand. After a three-year course the men, in terms of tlieir scholarships, will serve with ibe Victorian Department of Agriculture for at least three years. The department lias already made arrangements for the first four men to be chosen and to be accommodated at Massey College. in announcing this plan in Melbourne the Minister of Agriculture, Mr- McKenzie, said that for some time the Dairy Division of liis department had felt the need for officers with specialised scientific and practical knowledge Unit would enable the division to keep pace with modern developments and to discharge its proper function to the dairying industry. It was felt that available courses of study in Australian universities were not sufficiently specialised to turn out graduates suitable for this work. The nearest suitable centre, continued the Minister, was the Massey Agricultural College at Palmerston North, New Zealand, and it had been proposed that, until a course in dairy science was established at Melbourne University, a series of scholarships would be awarded to young Victorians to enable them to undertake the dairy science course at Massey College. The Government had approved that recommendation and four scholarships would be awarded this year to students who had completed the first year in agricultural science at Melbourne University. The course at Massey College would lie for a period of three years, and the successful applicants for the scholarships would be required to enter into a bond to serve with the ■ Victorian I >epartment of Agriculture for a period of at least three years on completion of their course.
