FAIR RENTS ACT AMENDED

MINISTER’S STATEMENT Returned Servicemen Tenants -A. (reminder to house-owners that there is an amendment to. the Fair Kents' Act regarding- the letting- of ■part of a dwelling-house to a re-turn-ad serviceman tenant, is given hy the Minister of Rehabilitation, the Hon. C. F. iSknner. The amendment, states Mr. Skinner, does not appear to Ibe sufficiently widely known among owners •of housing properties. “The position is,” he explains, “that, where the occupier agrees to let any part of it to a serviceman Both the landlord and the tenant may agree in writing that the premises so Ist will he exempt from the Act. The agreement has to be made before the tenancy commences and must be approved l by an inspector of factories. It will mean that the tenancy, or any sub-ten-ancy, can be concluded according to provisions made in the agreement between the landlord and the serviceman tenant. All such agreements are specially exempted from stamp duty. “The amendment was brought 3©wn to make it easier for those people who wished to help servicemen iby providing accommodation of this nature, to tide them over Until something more ‘ permanent was provided, and I feel sure that if it were more generally known, there would be a substantial increase in the number o(f offers made.” The Minister added that the amendment in no way affected any other type of tenancy.
