GERMAN NURSES
FOR NEW SOUTH WALES HOSPITALS
Recruitment of nurses, from European countries, including Germany, for work in New South Wales. State hospitals was suggested by the Minister for Tourist Activities and Immigration (Mr. Fijinan) recently. Britain, because of her own great need, seemed diffident about meeting a request for 350 nurses, said Mr. Finnan. It was necessary, therefore, to consider the recruitment of nurses from other places in Europe to alleviate the hardships created by the present shortage in all State hospitals, including those dealing with mental cases.
Mr. Finnan said the Federal Minister for Immigration (Mr. Calwell) had promised to help in getting the right type of European nurse to staff New South Wales hospitals. “Already there are qualified German women in Britain who want to come here. They would have to be nominated by friends cr relatives here, who would be prepared to pay their full fare and also accommodate them on their arrival,” said the Minister.
