WAIKATO UNION MEETS Moninsville’s Decision Applauded Morrinsville’s decision to fall into H-ne with other sub-unions and take part in the Finlay Cup competition —Waikato sub-union championship —was applauded when conveyed by Mr. C. H. Mclntyre to the Waikato Rugby Union on Friday evening. The chairman, Mr D. S. B. Heather, ■ said! Morrinsville, in view of its successes last season, was locked upon as champion team of the Waikato, and if it had! not participated in the competition there would have been disappointment. This view was endorsed by Mr A. E. Gibbons. In reviewing what he termed “the very good day” experienced by the union on King’s Birthday, Mr. Heather said the Waikato representative team put up a very meritorious performance in the circumstances. The selector and coaches were to be congratulated on the team’s .showing. I Record Gate Takings Mr. Heather referred to the record gate takings, which were highly satisfactory. iHe said the loudspeaker system at the park was .an innovation which was loudly acclaimed as “something all to' the good.” It was of benefit in assisting the. crowds -to disperse through the exits at the end <f the game. . Mr. Heather admitted that unfortunately alterations in jetsey .numbers were not advised over the loud- , {Speaker. The new scoreboard, was another innovation, said Mr Heather. Arrangements were being made for larger figures to be supplied. Record Refreshment Trade The chairman said the refresh ' merit stall did a record trade, the turnover amounting to over £SO. Schoolboys did yeoman, service in selling programmes. These sales realised a profit of £4S, 4517- being sold. Reports were given by the managers of the Waikato senior and junior teams, Messrs. H. Kirkman and N. Jackways, respectively. One • of the coaches, Mr. C. H. Mclntyre, said the senior selector,, <Mtr. A. L. Thomas, would desire to have a number cf practices. Referees’ Appointments - Mr. Heather announced the following referee appointments for the second senes of matches in the Waikato Finlay Cup sub-union competition: June 14: Matamata. v. Hamilton, at Hamilton, Mr H. Kirkman (Cambridge); Cambridge v. Raglan, at Raglan, Mr. A. A. Griffiths (Hamilton); Taupiri v. Morrinsville, at Morrinsville, Mr. M. E. Miles. (Matamata). June 21: PutaruixL v. Te Awamutu, at -Putaruru, Mr. W. Moxsom (Morrinsville). It was stated that the Bay of Plenty union had decided upon Tauraiuga as the venue for the Wai-kato-Bay of, Plenty game on August 16. The disqualification by the Putaruru sub-union of a Mara etui player for three years for using obsicene language and striking a referee in . a recent game was confirmed by the committee. It was decided to advise the player of the committee’s decision and to point out that he had certain rights of appeal.
