PEDIGREE SHORTHORN SALE

“ KEREONE ” STUD STOCK Yearling Bull Realises 200gns The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., conducted the sixth annual sale of pedigree milking Shorthorn cattle on behalf of Messrs. R. D. Cochrane and Son, of Kereone. The sale was held at Claudelands Pavilion, in' conjunction with the sale of the Rugby and Landrigg studs. There was a good attendance, breeders and buyers being present from Nelson and Timaru in the South Island, and from all parts of the North Island. Competition on bulls' and heifers was keen, top price being realised for the yearling bull, Kereone Golddust, whose dam, Kereone Nora 3rd, holds the senior two-year-old class lead of the breed in the Dominion. This bull was secured by Mr. F. G. Thomson, of Palmerston North, for 200 guineas. Another yearling bull, Kereone Favourite 2nd, was bought by Mr. J. H. Thompson, of Timaru, for 65 guineas. Kereone Commander 2nd went to Mr. A. H. Smith, _of Levin, for 61 guineas; Kereone Boy 2nd to Mr. J. E. Parker, of Te Aroha, for 65 guineas; and Mr. J. G. Lowell, of Howiok, purchased Kereone Leo 6th for 50 guineas. The average over all Kereone bulls sold was 47 guineas. The in-calf heifers' averaged 30 guineas. Mr. Alan Horn, of Levin, stud stock dairy expert for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile, was sales manager. JERSEY CATTLE CLUB Heifer Sale and Show The first annual heifer show and sale sponsored by the Morrinsville Jersey Cattle Breeders’ Club was held at Morrinsville. A splended line of heifers was paraded for judging by Mr. Ben Moreland (Cambridge), who spoke highly of the entries. The sale attracted' a large ar.d representative bench of buyers, yearlings and two-year-olds being well sought, and a good clearance was effected at values satisfactory to the vendors. The overall average was 30 guineas. The sale was conducted by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile, with Mr. E. W. King, of the stud stock department, as sales manager, and Mr. W. D. Crighton as auctioneer.

SPECIAL HEIFER SALE Top Quality To £l6 5s Dalgety and Co. held a special heifer sale at Morrinsville on account of Mr. S. Petrie, of Motumaoho. The heifers were yarded in excellent condition and met with keen competition from a representative bench of dairymen from surrounding districts. Top quality heifers made up to £l6 ss, and a 75 per cent, clearance was effected at an average price of £l2 10s. Realisations were:— Top quality Jersey heifers, £l4 to £l6 ss. Medium, £l2 15s to £l3 15s. Backward Jersey heifers, £lO 10s to £l2 10s.
