INFORMATION WANTED

INSURANCE COVERS Insurance companies wc/re castigatedl by Cr. J. E. Davidson at the November meeting of the Matamata County Council following a discussion on third party policies. Cr. Davidson said that for the past 2<5 years hj had had his employees covered against accident Recently one of them had tli* mis fortune to lose* a joint of a thumb while working a circular saw, and

when a claim was made he was told that such work was not covered H J had protested, but without success. Farmers should be- told by the companies as to just what such a policy covered. It covered sodium and scrub-cutting, and it covered an em ployee climbing a pine and topping it to prevent it touching electric wires, but it did not cover bushfelling, if a farmer happened to have a piece of bush on his property. He felt that insurance companies should be compelled to give a list of what work was covered and what was not covered, so that a farmer knew what he was paying

for. He mentioned the matter for die: information of farmers. The statement was made following information given by tho clerk and engineer as to various policiesheld by the council. Tho council decided: to insure three cars and the inspectors van for* £IOOO each as passenger cover. council also decided to ask the * Counties’ Insurance Company to define the benefits obtainable underpassenger insurance.
