HILLCREST CHEST HOSPITAL

(To the Editor) Sir, —By the report of the last meeting of the Waikato Hospital Board, a resolution was passed in favour of the Hillcrest site fer the chest hospitel. This resolution puts the- entire responsibility for the selection of the site on the shoulders of the five doctors consulted. The committee sot up by the various hospital boards was represen--tative of a certain area; therefore, when they decided to seek the advice of doctors, the latter should have been representative of that whole area, too, and not of the two cities only. It is a well recognised fact that individuals develop a bias towards their own locality, and that may explain the underground reason for the as yet undisclosed advantages, attributed to the Hillcrest situation and its choice. The man in the street io still awaiting a specific declaration of these hush hush advantages, because it is going to be the man in the street, or his wife, err child, who may have the misfortune to be a patient, or be called on to permit his daughter to join the nursing staff; and he will also have to find the money required. Incidentally, the man in the street is concermed to get the maximum possible cures in the minimum time, thereby saving suffering and young lives, at a minimum cost also. Hillcrest will never obtain these results because its only visible advantages depend on accessibility, and access does not cure diseas G. H. VERITY.
