A subsidy on rates and derating of farm land were questions discussed by the chairman of the Piako County Council (Mr. W. C. Kennedy) with the Minister of Finance (Mr. Coates) on Saturday. The Minister said that he fully recognised the difficulty that the dairyfarmers were up against, and that a commission was being set up in about two weeks’ time to go fully into the whole question of rates. The matter was one of finance, but that the farmers could rest assured that the Government would give anv assistance that was possible.
