Tokoroa.

W.D.F.U. SHOW Flowers and Industries The second annual flower show of the Tokoroa Women’s Division, held in the Memorial Hall, Tokoroa, on Wednesday of last week, was a pronounced success. Some splendid -exhibits came forward for all the sections. The division was enthusiastically supported by Tokoroa and neighbouring districts and the number and arrangements of the entries did justice to the large-minded views of its members. Over 400 entries were displayed, including 136 in the flower section, 70 in the vegetable and fruit, 104 in the home indus-' tries, 90 in the needlework and over 100 from school children. In the evening the hall was cleared for a short dance. Mr. K. S. Cox' presented the silver cup donated by the division and won by Mr. F. Colson, and also the points trophies. The judge of the flower and vegetable sections, Mr. O. Heerdegen, of Matamatq, spoke in enthusiastic terms of the quality of the entries. “ Notwithstanding the unfavourable season the number and variety of thq exhibits were excellent,” Mr. Heerdegen stated. “In the dahlia section the general quality of the blooms was good. The winning blooms would not be out of place in a. metropolitan show. Another outstanding flower was the first prize phlox, a very fine exhibit. “In the vegetable section the potatoes and onions just show what the once despised pumice soil can do. These are equal, if not better than, Pukekohe grown,” was the judge’s fine comment. These remarks are all the more valuable when it is stated that the judge was formerly a Pukekohe grower himself.
