METHODIST CHURCH.
ANNIVERSARY SERVICES. The fourteenth anniversary of the St. John’s Methodist. Church, Putaruru, was celebrated on Sunday. Rev. A. E. Jefferson, of Te Awamutu, conducted the service. There was special singing by the choir, with solos by Mr. Bob Edmeades in the morning and Mrs. J. J. Shine in the evening. On Monday a social was held in the Young People’s Hall, when a varied programme was submitted, including an interesting gymnastic item given by Mr. Vincent Pearce and three of his pupils. In his opening remarks on Monday, Rev. Featherstone said it was unique that on the fourteenth anniversary of the church the Rev. Jefferson, who had actually assisted in building the church when it was erected in 1919, should be present, and also himself, who had formed the first trust for the Methodist Church properties some 25 years ago, When in his first circuit, at Mamaku. A “ basket” supper proved a novelty and brought in an appreciable sum of money for the anniversary effort. The baskets were sold j by tender, the highest price being for one modelled on the church, which made a charming souvenir.
