PUTARURU DEFEAT HAMILTON. I An enjoyable day’s outing, for players and onlookers alike, was afforded cricket enthusiasts during the week-end, when the Putaruru club entertained a Hamilton eleven. The day was an ideal one for the sport, j and during the afternoon there was a fairly large attendance of the public. I The Hamilton team, whilst not "as originally selected, had several playI ers who have participated in representative cricket. The Putaruru ' team delighted their supporters by 1 defeating the visitors by 111 runs-. They declared their second innings closed when six wickets had fallen for 91 runs, leaving the visitors to get 140 runs, but the latter collapsed only 29 runs appearing in the score book for their second effort. During the afternoon, Mr. R. A. Bent, chairman of the Town Board, welcomed the Hamilton team in a cordial speech. Mr. Allen, the captain of the visiting team, responded, j and expressed pleasure at being present. The hospitality of the ladies was especially stressed, and they were given three hearty cheers.
