MAGISTRATE WELCOMED.

PUTARURU SITTING. Mr. S. L. Paterson. Before business commenced in the Putaruru Court on Friday, Mr. G. G. Bell (Hampson and Bell) took the opportunity to address a few words of welcome to Mr. S. L. Paterson, who was recently appointed to this circuit vice Mr. W. G. Kenrick. Speaking on behalf of local members of the legal fraternity and justices, Mr. Bell congratulated Mr. Paterson on his appointment, and offered him a hearty welcome to Putaruru. In Auckland he was well known as assistant Crown prosecutor, in which position he had earned the respect and esteem of members of the profession for his fairness and sound knowledge of law. Endowed with such faculties he would find his task on the bench much easier. The speaker understood that Mr. Paterson’s health was not the best, but he sincerely hoped it would improve and that he would find the work congenial. As far as the bar was concerned they would do all in their power to assist him. ’ In a brief reply, Mr. Paterson returned thanks for the welcome extended to him, and stated that he felt sure their future relations would be marked by that tolerance and goodwill, which assisted in keeping up the good name connected with the administration of British justice.
