Stories about Hinkler are still going the rounds of his admiring countrymen. Like Lindbergh, before the latter’s dazzling flight, he was regarded as rather a “ casual ” individual; but at least one occasion he showed he was anything but that. - Actually, he is a most meticulous i person, even to the point of seeing I that he is well-fed on his trips. They tell a story of one trial flight of his from Croydon. He had left with his usual unceremoniousness, and an hour afterwards, when he should have been a hundred miles away, liis mechanics were alarmed to see him arrive back. “ Forgot my sandwiches,” he explained, pocketing something about the size of a pack of cards. And, without more ado, he flew off again.
