SECRET OF HEALTH.

THE BUSINESS MAN. (By Sir W. Arbuthnot Lane, in tne ”Daily Mail. 77 } It is eorrest to say that British trade is the life blood of the nation, and it is our supremacy in trade that securer* for us the prestigs and prosperity which we are justly proud. The entire administrative responsibility of trade, or. in other words, wna» is vital in our national life and success, falls unon the shoulders of a comparatively small number of men and women who have generally reached the meridian of life or have passed beyond it. It is, therefore, of vital importance to the community that the business men on whom so much depends should take the greatest possible care of thesr health and retain their powers as long as possible. It is the unfortunate cxpex*ience of medical men that, owing to faulty diet and incorrect habits, these people frequently degenerate, or break down, at a period of their lives when they should be most useful to themselves and to the community. The basic factor underlying this failure to make good is always the same and is one for which the individual is solely responsible. When he begins to fail physcally or mentally, or both, he is regarded as suffering from 11 brain fag, 75 and 11 neurasthenia, 77 to use the word recently coined by the medical profession, represents a condition which is due solely' to ignorance, selfishness, stupidity, and neglect on the part of tho sufferer.

No Sympathy Deserved These people should realise not omy that they do not deserve any sympathy for the condition which they have brought upon themselves, but that they have no right to inflict their misery, ineffiicency, and disability upon their relations, friends, and the community generally. And tho public should come to regard failure in health as immoral and indeed criminal. When this change comes the evidences of | degeneration which are called brain I fag, neurasthenia, and disease wiu ( cease to exist, and the country will \ derive the full advantage it has a rignt j to expect from the mentality and experience of those upon whose activities ! it depends for success, j Let these people study, understand, 1 and obey the laws of health as la><J down by the New Health Society, Jet them realise that diet is a matter of vital importance to them, that unless they ,eat such foods as will nourish . their tissues and will stimulate, their intestinal tract to function in the normal way, which is absolutely essentia! to perfect health and to a long, useful life, they cannot expect to boar thenshare in the world’s work efficiently. j At the present time these people er.t \ an excessive amount of food, which, j because of unfitness for the purpose-., r. is utterly ineffective and unfitted ro enable them to have healthy bodies anct bright mental activity.
