N.Z. FARMERS’ ONION,

MORRINSVILLE BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Morrinsville branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union was held in the Coronation Hall on Saturday evening, Mr. J. M. Allen presiding over an attendance of 16 members. THE SECRETARY. Mr. R. Garroway wrote resigning from the position of secretary as he was leaving for Australia. The resignation was accepted with regret. Mr. J. E. Leeson moved that Mr. Garroway be voted £3 3s as a token of recognition of his services. Mr. S. A. Ferguson seconded, stating that Mr. Garroway had done a lot of work for the old branch, as well as for the new one. Mr. J. L. Faulkner was elected to fill the vacancy. MEMBERSHIP. Messrs. N. and H. Howie were elected members of the branch. Mr. Harnett asked the position in connection with members enrolled recently by the union’s representative. The president said the branch had written to the provincial executive stating that the fist sent to the branch was hopelessly incomplete. The past secretary had added names he had discovered but the list was still incomplete. Mr. Harnett said there were three men he knew sf who were not on the list.

Mr. Ferguson said the Tatuanui men, he understood, would rather join with the Morrinsville branch than form one of their own. He also was of the opinion that the Motumaoho farmers would also rather join the Morrinsville branch so as to make one good organisation. Mr. J. Pirrit s uggested holding meetings at nearby centres to solicit support from those places. Mr. Ferguson supported this suggestion, stating that small executives could be formed for those districts.

It was decided to hold meetings at Tatuanui and Motumaoho to ascertain if the farmers there would join the Morrinsville branch. PAYMENT OF SUBSCRIPTIONS. Mr. Leeson suggested that, instead of members paying their subscriptions to the Auckland provincial executive as was the rule at present, payment should be made to the branch.

This matter was left with the pre- ■ sident to discuss it with Mr. . F. Colbeck, who is a member of the executive. RAGWORT IN DUMPS. In connection with the resolution at the previous meeting drawing the Piako County Council’s attention to - the menace of gorse and ragwort in ! shingle dumps on the roads, it was i reported that there was no reply i from the council but these noxious ! weeds had been eradicated. It was decided to thank the council for its co-operation.
