MATI SCHOOL ROAD.

HILL GRADE VERY BAD. Request for Metalling. (The condition of the Mati school road was brought before the Matamata County Council at its meeting at Tirau on Friday. Mr. F. W. Bowler wrote: “ Would it / be possible for the council to attend to the road in front of my property, and also the steep hill going up towards the Mati school, before the winter rains -set in ? The road in the winter is just a bog, while the hill is so greasy that it is almost impossible to get up with an empty wagon. The grader was round this way before Christmas, and made a mess of the road, leaving all the grass sods in the centre, and it is full of deep ruts now. It was almost impassable last winter, and this winter will probably be worse unless attended to very soon. “I would suggest that the hill be metalled (as sand will not remain on it) and the fiat be improved with the pumice sand, which seems to stand the wear and tear of traffic pretty well.

“ Thanking you in anticipation of a good hearing.” 1 1 must say that the road wants attention,” said Cr. Rollett, “for there is a danger of the spare wheel being dragged off the back of the car.” The grader did not finish the job. The piece between his gate and Payze’s is particularly bad, being simply a bog hole.

Left to riding member and engineer to attend to.
