THAMES VALLEY POWER BOARD

THE MARCH MEETING. The Thames Valley Electric Power Board met at Te Aroha last week, there being present : Messrs. F. M. Strange, chairman (Piako county), J. Price (Matamata town district), J. Pohlen (Matamata county), G. Howie (Morrinsville borough), W. E. G. Willey (Hauraki Plains county), J. McCormick (Thames county), H. M. Corbett (Ohinemuri county), F. E. Flatt (Paeroa borough), C. A. Arthur (Te Aroha borough). Leave of absence was granted to Messrs. J. B. Thomas (Piako county) and H. R. Bush (Thames borough). STOPPAGES OF POWER.

A settler at Kerepeehi wrote as follows : “ With reference to the cutting off of current during the day time, would it be asking too much of your board to notify by telephone, letter or telegram when such interruptions are likely to occur? Your electric range consumers at least should be shown some consideration.” The manager said notification was given through the local press when any interruptions were contemplated. It was decided as far as possible to notify consumers by telephone. KEREPEEHI SUB-STATION.

A lengthy communication was received from the district electrical engineer, Public Works Department, relative to the layout of the Kerepeehi sub-station. With regard to the date of getting supply, it was pointed out that the determining factor in that respect was the arrival of the switch gear for Waikino. That and all other orders from England had been much delayed owing to the coal strike and all work had been disorganised owing to the necessity for temporary makeshifts at all places where construction was going on. It should take about a month to get the temporary substation completed, and by about that time the switch gear would also he installed. If the board was in a position to expedite the work at Kerepeehi the department would raise no objection to that being done. The engineer (Mr. N. G. McLeod! said it would be probably the end of April before the sub-station was completed. The chairman said the board was doing all it could to expedite matters. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £14,028 on the power fund and £7601 6S lid on the loan fund were passed for payment. REPORT ON CONFERENCE. . The manager submitted a resume of the business done at the recent managers’ conference. On the motion of Mr. Price the manager was thanked for the report and the manner in which he had prepared it. POWER IN BULK. Mention was made of the suggestion to amend the agreement between the board and the Thames and Te Aroha boroughs in connection with the supply of power in bulk. Mr. Flatt said he would like the matter settled as soon as possible and suggested that it be brought up at the next meeting with all the data that would be required. The chairman said the matter would be discussed at the next meeting.
