The Primacy.

SERIOUS COMPLICATIONS. A serious complication has arisen in connection with the consecration of Archdeacon Julius to the Bishopric of Christchurch. A mandate from the Bishop of Nelson, as primate, has been received by Bishop Neville, asking the standing committee to consent to his election. The Bishop doclines to acknowledge Bishop Suter as primate, and, as the mandate must come from, and be retained to, the primate, he declines to submit the matter to the standing committee. At a meeting on Tuesday night he explained his views as te the primacy to the standing committee. Some of the members wished to deal with the question irrespective of the primacy, but the bishop considered that it could not be done. It wee eng. gested that the qneetion should be sub nutted to the Supreme Court, but the committee merely passed on to the next business. The Bienop is fortified by legal
