Determined Suicide.
George Young, clerk in the Sheep and Rabbit Inspector's office, Masterton, shot himself on Tuesday morning. He was discovered in a dying state about lialf-an-hour after committing tho deed, and lived only a few minutes after being found. He shot himself in the mouth, the bullet
going right into the •kull. He left a letter intinmtuig hn intention of killing himself, toying th*t he was tired of life. Hit life was insured for i'soo in the Government office and £*2oo in another office. Moi clary difficultien are suppose 1 to have h. en the cause of the deed, The following is tne text of the letter referred to above, which was found lying open on a chair in Mr Orbell's office, with £1 8s 7d in silver and coppers placed upon it:—•• Mr Wilsone and Mr Drbell,—l have been preparing for d; ath to-day. I die in the back yard. Bend a horseman at once for my executor. Richard Alexander Wilson, near Kludge Creek, ami iuv brother, j. K. Young, of Hood and Walker's station, Glendonald, lluleford. Let the news be broken gently to them both. Tell them to coinc down to-night. Give them the parcel. Bee that tho newt is broken gently to my wife, and that my children are kept at home. I am tired of life; good-bye to you both. Farewell to all Maaterton friends.—(Sd), George Tot; so. Matterton, 31*t January, 1888." Mr Young was about 40 years of age, and bad been married twice, lie leaveß a widow and six young children, three of them being by bis first wife. The revolver used by deceased was purchased two hours before he committed the deed, the price being 80s, of which 20s was paid on account.
At the inquest on Wednesday, the jiirv returned the following verdict: —“ That the said George Young did kill himself with a revolver on tho 31st January, 1888, at Mssterton, being at the timeof unsound mind."
