Pahiatua Road Board.

The monthly meeting of the al»>ve was held on Saturday afternoon. l‘n sent—Messrs Crewe (chairman'. Corbett, Miller. Gregg, and Wakeman. Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. From same, asking fur permission to build a lean-to on above road. Granted on condition that he remove same ou receiving one mouth's notice. From G. Whitcombs, resigning seat ou Board. Froui Crown Laiide Office, asking for what purpose the Board required the reserves applied for. From same, notifying that the proposal* for <«i*esiditure of thirds on roads had bcjki approved; with tlie exception of those for section 21. Block VIII., Mangabao. the selector having signified a wish to have the thirds B|*nt on the nan! to the section. Vouchers were being prepared for the payment of the thirds. From Treasury, notifying that £llO for roads in Village Settlement had been remitted to credit of Hoard. From Hank of New Zealand. Mas terion. notifying that •• £1(MI" had been received on account of roads in Village Settlement. Mr Wakeman seconded the motion, and likewise considered it would be a great advantage. Mr Crewe strongly opposed the motion, as it would lead to a complication in the accounts. Mr Corbett followed in the same •train. On the motion being put it was deelur*il lost, Messrs Miller and Wakeman voting for, und Messrs Crewe, Corbett, and Gregg against. AT LAST. The money promised by the Minister of Lands for expenditure in the Village Settlement having been passed to the c red.st of the Board, it was resolved that the long-standing application of the owner of section 5‘J for access be now complied with. KSOINBER. The following applications were received for the position of Engineer to the Board : E. J. Armstrong, Palmerston North. C. E. O. Smith, Napier. J. W. Beaufort, Palu&tua. It. B. Harper, Wellington. John 11. Berbam, Wellington. G. Whitcombe, Pahiatua. Proposed by Mr Corbett, seconded by Mr Miller, that Mr Whitcombe be appointed. Proposed by Mr Wakeman, seeoned by Mr Crewe, that Mr Beaufort he appointed. The latter proposition was carried. Ayes—Wakeman, Crewe, and Gregg. Noes—Miller and Corbett. NOTICE OF MOTION. Mr Miller to move at next meeting. That the engineer be empowered to erect a log bridge over creek on Baucke's Load ; and two on creeks on Middle ltoad, to give access to Messrs Wiles and Morgan Village Settlement; and one on Tiraumea North Load to give access to Mr Alexanders section. Village Settlement.

Several accounts were passed, and the Board adjourned.
