Pahiatua Town Board.
The fortnightly meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present —Messrs Briggs (chairmans lieese. Wakeman, and Crimp. Minutes of previous meetings were read aud confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Letter from Crown Lands Office, notifying the Board that its application to have Cemetery situ changed from section 25 to section M2 had been granted ; in the meantime, until the bodies interred in the original site are removed, it could remain as a closed cemetery. Gravel, however, could be taken from tbe reserve if the Board wished. LEVELS. The committee appointed to wait on Mr Beaufort re taking levels, reported that the work was now being gone on with, Mr Beaufort having undertaken to supply levels 12 chains back on both sides of the mam road for £2O, the Board supplying pegs and all other material required. It was considered that as the levels would not require to be altered, tlie present small expenditure tabout £22 in alii would be a great saving to the Board, as from time to time it would bo called upon to supply levels to persons about to build, and unless they were fixed this would soon cost considerably mure than £22. Thu committee's action was approved. CLEARING THE CREEK. Mr Reese thought it desirable that the creek running through the town should be cleared of logs, Ac., so as to give the water a better chance of getting away. The present was a good opportunity, us tho creek was in fiun 1. and logs could bo got out without much trouble; To test the question ho would move, That the Clerk be em powered to spend £5 in clearing ti„. creek from the southern l*ounder\ to behind Mr Manus'.
Mr Wakeiuan s<-cond«d pro forma. He did not think the Board would be justified ill spending money in clearing the creek through private property. He thought they could compel the owners to do the work if it were found to be a nuisance.
Mr Briggs of tlie same opinion. He thought it would be an advantage to have the creek cleared, but there were other works of greater importance at present. Mr lieese, in reply, said be was aware that the Board did not payees any too much money at present, and that perhaps it would not lie quite the correct thing to clear the creek on private property ; bul ho maintained that if left in its present state it was likely to be a source of great annoy
sin 1 * in Rummer, as not only wi re there logs to be clearest out, but As sheep and other animals, the stenen from which when tlie warm weather set in would not prove at all healthy. The clearing of the creek would al»o lessen the danger of flood, and lie considered the money he had propoeed could not tie better spent. The tnoliou was then put and declared lost. MAKUAHAO KUU>. Messrs Briggs. Crewe, and ("mop A, were appointed to wail on Mr Heaney with reference to diverting the rn; k near the proposed bridge on tlie Maligahao lload. Tlie Board then adjourned.
