THE PELORUS GUARDIAN and Miners’ Advocate. TUESDAY, APRIL 8, 1919. VICTORY WAR LOAN.

We publish in another part of the present issue a preliminary announcement from the Acting Minister of Finance (Hon. A. M. Myers) of the Victory War Loan, which will no doubt be the last call upon the resources of the Dominion in connection with the great Empire struggle for freedom. The Minister of Finance (Sir Joseph Ward), before he left for England, gave an indication of what further monies would be required to meet the war expenditure, and pointed out that though hostilities had ceased, there must still be heavy commitments and liabilities to oe met during the cleaning up process and in the return of our great army of fighters. Probably the aim of the present loan will be £9,000,000 or £10,000,000, and arrangements ' have been made by the Treasury for the receipt of subscriptions at once. Such investments will bear interest at the “rate of 41 per cent, and will be free from income-tax. We appeal to the loyalty of tax-payers to take advantage of the liberal terms offered to volun-

tary subscribers. Special attention is drawn to the fact that the compulsory provisions of the Finance Act will be put into operation in the event of the voluntry response being below the mark, and persons who are required to subscribe under compulsion will receive 3 per cent, only by way of interest on their investments. Post Office Inscribed investments (which will bear interest at the rate of 5 per cent., but subject to income-tax) is offered to those who prefer a short-dated investment. Inscribed stock matures in 1927, and to meet the requirements of the smallest investor Post Office Certificates may be obtained at all Money-order offices in the usual way and on the usual terms.
