There was a touch of pantomime about Highett street, Richmond (Vic.), recently, when a golden kettle disappeared (says the Melbourne ‘Herald')* Everybody who heard of it was amused, but the laugh was not shared by those immediately interested. It was a sim s pie case. Mr George Ayres had hidden away £3O; Mr Ayres had thrown the money away. There was an old castiron kettle under a shed in the yard lying about as outworked and pensioned kettles do. Mr Ayres on Christmas Eve picked up the old kettle and decided that the rusty old pot was not half a bad place in which to hide money. He placed £2B 10s in notes and three half-sovereigns in it, and left it in the shed. Last week Mrs Ayres unluckily cleaned up the shed, and one of the things which she decided could be done without was the nasty old kettle. She threw it over the fence into a right-of-way. Of course she did not know until too late that the kettle had done duty as a bank. Nobody has reported having found the money, and the police have been notified of the loss.
