HOUSEHOLD HINTS.

The following mixture makes an excellent floor polish ;—Get a little linseed oil, and add an equal quantity of vinegar. Shake it well, and apply it to the floor with a soft cloth.

Mustard for table use is very much improved if mixed with milk instead of water. A tiny pinch of salt added to it brings out the flavour.

Sprinkle your carpet with dry common salt before starting to brush it, and you will find it not only keeps the dust from rising, but it freshens and brings out the colours of your carpet.

When making any kind of boiled suet pudding, put a piece of wellgreased grease-proof paper over the top before tying on the cloth. This prevents the cloth from becoming greasy, and it is quite easy to wash.

Next time you are. boiling fish try adding a few drops of vinegar to the water in which it is boiled. You will find that the fish will come out looking beautifully white and firm. If you want your oilcloth to wear well and keep its colour do not wet it oftener than is necessary. Rub it well with a soft flannel wrung out of hot soapy water, this will easily remove the dirt, then polish with a soft duster.

Floor cloth can be beautifully cleaned with a little stale beer or ale, which gives a very bright polish. But first wash off the dust and soilings with warm, clean water. No soap or soda should be used. When quite dry sponge over with stale beer.
