Tank Loan Week has created much enthusiasm in London. Six tanks are operating in various centres. The first day’s subscriptions include one of 2} millions, one of 2 million, four of a milion and several of half a million.
In the House of Commons, Mr G. J. Wardle, Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade, stated that the Paper Commission was considering more drastic restrictions in view of the increasing scarcity of paper. The Press Bereau reports that a fire and a slight explosion occurred in a munition works in South Wales. Two persons were killed and four are suffering from burns. The damage is not serious.
In a great espionage trial at Antwerp there were 63 prisoners. Eight were sentenced to death.
The “Daily Chronicle” states that the shipping controversy between Norway and Britain has been settled.
