In spite of the dull morning there was a very fair attendance of buyers and farmers at Addington last Wednesday. The yarding of beef was well up to recent sales, and there was also a large yarding of store sheep, which met with a keen demand. The entry, both of fat lambs and fat sheep, was smaller than at the previous week’s market, and good sales resulted on a par with late rates. There was a much smaller offering of fat lambs in the pens, only 2328 being forward, as compared with 3139 at the previous week’s sale. Export buyers wore active and took the larger proportion of the offerings The quality of most of the lambs was distinctly good. Prices ranged as under;—Extra prime lambs 30s Bd, prime 26s Gd to 29s lOd, lighter 22s Gd to 2os Id. There was a smaller yarding of fat sheep than the previous week, and the qualitj', taking it all round, was not up to usual standard. There was an unique proportion of rough and unfinished stuff. The range of prices was:—Extra prime wethers to 425, prime wethers 35s to 38s, merino wethers 19s 3d to 275, extra prime ewes to 39s Id.

There was a rather smaller yarding of fat cattle at the opening of the market, and the sale started off very well for all classes of beef. The arrival of a late consignment steadied the sale considerably, and it tended to flag a little towards the finish. Butchers obtained the bulk of the offerings, exporters only taking a small proportion. Prices were:—Extra prime steers to £23, prime steers £l7 17s Gd to £l9 12s (id. prime heifers £ll ds to £l7, prime cows £l2 7s Gd to £l7 ss.

A fair proportion of better sorts was included in a good sized yarding of dairy cows. The demand was spirited right up to the end of the sale, prices ranging up to £2l ss. There was a medium entry of fat pigs, and porkers were ,n particularly short supply. Values for tac latter were slightly firmer, but, for be honors the effect of fixed prices for the cured product was again apparent, and prices were possibly a shade easier. Prices ruled;—Choppers £1 to £6, heavy baconers to £G, heavy porkers £2 12s to ■'£4, lighter porkers £3 to £3 10s.
