It was stated at Tuesday's meeting of the Pelorus Road Board that Mr A. B. Wright, Resident Government Engineer, would bo retiring on superanuation at the end of the present month, Mr Erie Buckman, of Havelock, who has held a responsible position for some time in the Telegraph Department, Blenheim, has been transferred to Wellington Post Office.
Tho late Mr W. Lucena who was drowned at Havelock last Saturday morning, was 53 years of age, and leaves a widow and two young sons. He was a member of an old and respected Wairarapa family, and took up 4 * his residence in Picton about eight years ago, says the "Press”. For one term ho served as a member of the Picton Borough Council, apd he was one of the founders and mainstays of tho Poultry Association. He took an interest in all forms of sport. The funeral took place at Picton on Sunday afternoon, and was largely attended. The impressive service at Holy Trinity Church and at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. N. Friberg.
