PATRIOTIC SPORTS.

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT CARLUKE. The patriotic sports gathering held in Mr Thomas Blanchett’s paddock, Carluke, on Saturday last, was very successful. The weather fortunately kept fine, and there was a large attendance from all parts of the district. Many races and games were arranged for the children. Sells’ circus on the ground formed an added attraction for both old and young. A dance was held in the Carluke Hall in the evening, and was well attended. Following are the results of the principal running and sawing events: — 100 Yards. —A. Wells, 12yds, 1; A. Hears, 13yds, 2. Twelve started. Married Women's Race. —Mrs R. Andrews 1, Mrs Gordon Webb' 2, Mrs Laird 3. Seven started. Married Men’s Race.—R. Andrews 1, C. Campbell 2. Eighteen started. Standing Chop.—A. Waggoner, 20sec, 1; F. Tcmpleman, scr, 2; U.
