NATIONAL EFFICIENCY BOARD.

meeting of ratepayers. At tlio conclusion of the Polorus Road Board meeting on Tuesday afternoon a meeting of ratepayers was held ~t the Board’s office to adopt or otherwise the resolution of the 3rd April appointing Messrs J. Fulton, John Leslie, E. F. Henly, C. F. Hart, and'John Storey as a local committee to assist the National Efficiency Board. The attendance of the general public was practically nil, and it was evident that very little interest was being taken in the appointment of the Advisory Board. Mr J. S. Storey was appointed to the chair.

Mr Kennington said he thought the Road Board had been a bit hasty in setting up a committee of advice composed of men who had sons at the front or who were eligible for service. He was sorry to have to refer to that aspect of the matter, but it appealed to him as not being quite the correct thing. Two or throe of those present differed from the views expressed by Mi Kennington, and held that the objection raised was not a matter that would make any difference to the actions of those serving on the Board. The chairman pointed out that the Advisory Board as it now stood was composed of men well distributed over the district.

Mr Hoaly held the opinion that men who had sous serving at the front were Ihe most suitable they could appoint. Reference was made to the apathy of the public in not attending after the meeting had been well advertised in the papers circulating through the district.

Mr Opio moved, and Mr Cowper seconded, that the action of the Pclorus Road Board in appointing the local Committee of Advice be endorsed. ■The motion was carried without dissent. On the motion of Mr Fulton, the chairman of the Felorus Road Board was appointed to act as chairman of the local Advisory Committee. Mr C. A'Court Opio was unauiui: ously appointed secretary, and Mr E. F. Hcaly and the chairman delegates to the Blenheim Executive. The chairman reported on the work done by the Board. Several cases of hardship were investigated, and recommendations made for exemption. The appointment of trustees was hold over till next meeting, which was fixed for Tuesday, Juno 4th.
