PERSONAL.

The Bishop of Nelson has just paid a three days’ visit to this part of the diocese, arriving in Havelock on Friday from Nelson. On Friday afternoon a garden party was held at the vicarage, a large number of parishioners taking the opportunity of meeting His Lordship. The weather was all that could be desired, the time being spent in a pleasant social manner. Two or three musical items were rendered and much appreciated. On Saturday evening the Bishop met the vestry of St. Peter’s Church, when several matters of parochial interest were discussed. During Sunday TTih Lordship conducted confirmation services at Rai Yalley and Canvastown, and in the evening preached at St. Peter’s, Havelock, to a large congregation. At Kenepuru Head last Thursday night (reports the Picton “Press) a presentation was made to LanceCorporal J. Harris by the residents of the district. Corporal Harris, who is now on his final leave, is exceedingly popular in the Sounds, and a large number of friends were present. The gifts were a wristlet watch and a cheque for a substantial amount, Mr P. Beech making the address on behalf of the subscribers, and Miss Olive McMahon handed the presentations to the recipient. Other speeches of a complimentary nature were made by Messrs J. McMahon, Hancock, and J. D. Henderson, and the soldier thankfully responded. After the presentation, a dance was held in Mr W. Ashton’s woolshed, and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent by everyone present.
