Toes that Grow too Fast.

A partnership of 19 years’- standing will be dissolved if the surgeons of the Polyclinic Hospital, Philadelphia, comply with the request of Elmer March, and amputate both his little toes. March limped into the local accident ward recently and complained that the members in question exhibit a tendency to grow around the other toes like ivy around an oak. They have been subject to this wanderlust since March’s birth, but only recently, he said, have they caused pain. One night March bought a pair of new shoes, but when he attempted to put them on his queer toes hurt so much that he determined to rid himself of them for good and all. This may not be so easy, however, as the surgeons fear that their abnormal growth is due to a rare bone disease, and the toes may sprout again even after the operation has .been performed. The strange affliction' was inherited by March. His grandfather had the same trouble, and so has the son of his father s brother. The cousin is waiting to see how March stands the operation before condemning his own toes to oblivion.
