Disaster on the Hudson
TWO PERSONS DROWNED SEVERAL OTHERS MISSING New York, May 28. Twenty persons were crossing a gang plank to tbe steamer Frederick VIII 1 , when the plank broke and men, women and children were precipitated into the Hudson. Two were drown d, and three are missing. Several injured were sent to the hospital. One man, failing to rescue a friend’s child, became fcem M porarily insane. The accident was due to overcrowding. As the last whistle was blown, shore visitors hurried off, and belated steerage passengers rushed on board, the weight being too great. The members of tbe crew jumped into the water and attempted to effect rescues, but the tide carried off the bodies.
