After providing for a number of private legacies, the late Mrs Annie Townend left the following amounts to public institutions : —£lo,ooo for the relief of distressed gentlewomen ; £SOOO to Church trustees for clergymen with stipends under £3OO a year ; £SOO for the Cruelty Prevention Society in the Isle of Man ; £SOOO to the chief charitable institution in the Isle of Man ; £SOOO to the Christchurch Society for the Prevention of Cruelty ,to Animals; £4OOO to the Hospital Visitors’ Association ; £4OOO to the Citizen’s Benevolent Association ; £4OOO to the children’s convalescent cottage at New Brighton ; £IOOO to the Barnado Homes ; £IOOO to the Cashmere. Hills Sanatorium, Lesser amounts were left to the Salvation Army, the Horticultural Society, the district nursing fund, and the Prison Gate Mission.
