LINKWATER BRANCH FARMERS’ UNION
(From our own Correspondent).A meeting waa held in the schoolroom Mabakipawa on 23rd inst, Mr James Pulton in the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Messrs J. Fulton and A. Minns were appointed as delegates to the Provincial Conference to be held at Mabau on 27th inst.
After some discussion the delegatee were empowered to bring the following remits before the Provincial Conference: “That this meeting enters a strong protest at the action of the Postal Department in taking away the mail service between Mabakipawa and Havelock which has been in existence since 1864.” “That Education Boai-ds should have discretionary powers in alloling capitation in isolated localities.” A motion was carried to ihe effect that the time had now arrived when the question of altering the road from Havelock to Mabakipawa to a lower level should be gone into, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Town Board, Harbour Board, Road Board and Sounds Farmer’s Union and endeavour to arrange a conference with these bodies to discuss the matter.
The Annual General Meeting was fixed for Saturday 13th June.
