"TRAINING”: AN IMPORTANT OBSERVATION.

1 The average man who goes in for athletic training believes that unless he reduces his weight, his labours have been wasted. The fallacy of this is pointed out by Dr. Harry Campbell, who last year drew attention to the fact that while the winning University crew put on weight, the losing crew lost weight during training. This year again he points out that the victorious Oxford crew actually put on IG-ilbs., while the Cambridge crew lost 10£ lbs. He attributes Oxford’s superior staying power to its weight gam. The Oxford stroke gained 31 lbs. and the Cambridge stroke lost 4 lbs., while one of the Oxford crew (No. 5) actually gained 81bs., only two members of the Oxford crew (Nos. 4 and 7) lost, and'only three of the Cambridge men gained weight.
