HAVELOCK HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Board was attended by Messrs H. M. Reader (chairman), W. H. Smith, W. H. Buckman, and T. D. Taylor. In reply to the Board’s request for information as to the praci ce in Nelson, the secretary of the Nelson Harbour Board wrote that his Board did not exact license fees from launches that merely visited the port and did not ply for hire. It was resolved to adopt the same rule at Havelock so far as launches from outside the Sound are concerned. Mr Buckman referred to complaints by launch-owners that they were compolled to pay a license-fee to the Marine Department as well’as to the Harbour Board, and strong comment was made by the members present at the action of the Department in usurping the functions of the Board andimposing excessive fees on owners. On the chairman’s proposition, seconded by Mr Smith, it was resolved that the Department be written to on the subject. With regard to the house and outbuildings erected on the Board's reserve by the tenant, Mr G. Mortimer, it was found that the lease did not provide for compensation for these improvements. It was therefore decided that a minute be placed on the books, and endorsed on the lease, to the effect that at the termination of Mr Mortimer’s tenancy the reserve be weighted with the then value of the buildings, so as to protect him if he did not secure a renewal of the lease. The secretary repotted that the Manaroa bad broken a baacon and that Mr Wilson had damaged one through a gravel-punt he was towing colliding with it. The secretary added that those responsible had been notified that the damage must be repaired. The Bank book showed a credit of £lB3 12s fid.
