DRIVER, THE GREAT MAGICIAN

At the Havelock Town Hall on Saturday night next, Prof. T. W. Driver, the famous magician and expoaer of spirit mysteries, will present his original entertainment of magic and anti-spiritual-ism. Ever since he has crossed swords with Bailey, the alleged spirit medium, he has had the sympathy and support of the public, and he has been greeted with packed houses in every town he has visited. In Wellington the large Town Hall was found to be too small to accommodate the people who flocked to witness Driver’s manifestations, and in Wanganui the police stopped the sale of tickets before 8 o’clock. A few years agohe settled down to private life in Wellington, but the bringing over to New Zealand of Charles Bailey, the medium, aa ft person possessing supernatural powers, was the means of bringing Mr Driver once more before the public. Looking upon Bailey as simply a trickster, and knowing his methods of producing “ apports,” Mr Driver determined he would not let Bailey exploit New Zealand without.being challenged to produce his manifestations under strictly test conditions, and under the critical eye of a professional conjuror. This Bailey refused to do, and left New Zealand. Before he got away, however, Driver had demonstrated clearly that it required no supernatural gifts in order to produce “apports” under the very conditions which it had bson said were impossible. Mr Driver says “it is with the object of exposing the fallacies of so-called spiritualism ” that he now announces his appearance in Havelock. He will be assisted throughout bis spiritual seances by Mdlle. M.. Rene, and an interesting and amusing enter-, taimnent will be presented,
