DAVID AND GOLIATH.
Lord Roberts was chatting with some friends at a reception one night when a very tall man came up and asked to be introduced to the very famous little soldier. After the introduction '-.ad been made, the tall man—who happened to be one of those unple.siut people whose whole idea of humour is to raise a laugh at somebody else’s expense—shaded his eyes with his hand as th mgh Lord Robeets, being so smell, could only be seen with difficulty. " 1 have often heard of you,” he remarked, moving his head from side to side, as though trying to get a better view, " but I have never seen jou.” " That is very possible,” Lord Roberts replied, promptly, " for I have often seen you, but I have never heard of you.”
